Female Betta (Betta splendens)
Care level: Easy
Max Size: 6cm
Diet: Omnivore
Temp: 22-26°C
PH: 6.5-7.5
Purchase size:Whilst they're not as showy as the males, the smaller female betta are a popular choice for many aquarists wishing to keep betta in a community tank.. They are a lot more relaxed than the male fighters and can be kept with a number of other species, as well as other female bettas, which is called a sorority. Whilst these females are far more likely to tolerate their own kind, as well as others, caution should still be exercised when keeping them with tank mates as there may be exceptions. As a result, we recommend that the tank is of reasonable size and furnished with plenty of plants and bog wood to help break the line of sight and offer hiding spots. A good number is 4-6 females so that there is a reduced chance of any single female being targeted relentlessly.
Females should never be housed with a male as the male will eventually kill the female.
Food can be offered in the form of micro pellets as well as fresh and frozen fish foods such as bloodworm, daphnia and brine shrimp.
